The 3 things you must always keep in mind when reading a single bible verse.

1. What is the context of the text before and after it?

In other words, who was the writer speaking to specifically? (Was the writer speaking exclusively to the nation of Israel, was it the Jews, was it the Gentiles, just the children of God, or is the text addressed to everyone?)

2. Is my interpretation of this text consistent with the theme of all of scripture.

In other words, does scripture back and support my interpretation of the text? Can I find other supporting bible verses in the Bible that supports my interpretation? Whenever we read the Bible, we are to compare scripture with scripture. We are to humbly ask The Holy Spirit in the name of Jesus to reveal to us what is being said in scripture. We do this because God nor His word contradicts itself. If something seems to contradict itself in the word of God, it is because of my or your wrong understanding and interpretation of the text. The problem is never with God for He alone is perfect and flawless. There is indeed a theme that is consistent and connects all of scripture together. There is this harmonious holy flow as it were in the word of God. All of it connects, all of it goes together, all of it builds precept upon precept, all of it builds one truth after another and it always ultimately leads us to Christ. All of scripture is to reveal, glorify, praise and worship The Holy Son of God Jesus Christ.

3. God is infinitely Holy and infinitely righteous far beyond our human comprehension. God’s ways are higher than our ways and God’s thoughts are higher than our thoughts. God’s ways are not our ways and God’s thoughts are not our thoughts.

Because this is indeed true about God there are just some things I am not going to fully understand about God. Yes, they’re some things I’m just not going to understand about him. God never said that we will understand everything about him. Nor does he command or expect us to know everything about him to be saved. God doesn’t expect us to know everything about him, He just wants us to trust and believe in Him. All we can know about God is what he has revealed of himself in His Word. Now if it’s written in His Word God wants us to understand it. And by The Person and power of His Holy Spirit we can understand the written Holy word of God. All The Holy Spirits revelations given to a believer in Christ will be consistent with Gods word and will never contradict itself. Therefore, if someone claims to speak by The Spirit of God it will be consistent with the word of God and will never contradict itself.
